HF Control Unit is located at Telecommunication Headquarters, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. This unit is functioning round the clock in the headquarters with Sparrow, Technical cadre Monitoring Cell, CoB and HF Communication.
Sparrow (State VHF Control Station) at HF Control acts as a state-wide control of VHF communication, properly controls the communication in trunk line around the clock as per Radio Procedure.
Kerala Police established Technical Cadre by deputing Telecommunication staff in all Sub divisional Police Offices. Technical Cadre staff performs care and maintenance of each and every digital/electric/electronic equipment in all police station and other offices. In this way Government can save a huge amount by avoiding AMC to various equipment. Technical Cadre Monitoring Cell in HF Control unit guides and supervise the works of the Technical Cadre and submits daily/ weekly/ monthly reports to higher-ups. This team strictly monitor and follow-up pending works by contacting concerned officers.
COB (Communication Backbone) a high security intranet communication system in this unit handles all outside district messages to the offices without CoB node in Thiruvananthapuram.
This unit also act as a control station of High Frequency (HF) communication which is the traditional means of communication established much before voice communication and still follows based on its reliability and wide coverage. As HF communication equipment can transmit signals to more than 1000 kilometers using proper antenna installation, we can communicate with middle region of our country. HF communication is currently kept as a standby mode in Kerala Police.
