 Kollam Tele Sub Unit provides effective communication infrastructure to Kollam City & Kollam Rural Police Districts. This Sub-Unit is functioning at a new building in  Kollam DPO compound. Telecommunication unit of Kollam is headed by Inspector of Police, Telecommunication. About 40 numbers of Police officials in the ranks of Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors, Head Constables and Police Constables from Kerala Police Telecommunication is working in this unit for the upkeep and maintenance of communication equipments and channels. For the repair and maintenance of Computers in the District, a District Computer Maintenance Unit (DCMU) is also functioning under the Telecommunication Unit. A video conference arrangement is also managed by this unit at the DPC office.
Repeater Stations
 The District Repeaters of Kollam City and Kollam Rural are functioning at the Ponmudy Hill Station. There are Three Town Repeater Stations functioning at Kollam City, Karunagapally & Kottiyam in Kollam City Police Limit catering to the needs of effective communication for L/O communication and Traffic regulations. H/B patching repeater is functioning at Kollam City situated at Bishop Jerome Nagar linked with District VHF-L/B. There are Two Town Repeater stations unctioning at Kollam Rural District situated at Kottarakkara & Punalur. VHF H/B patching repeater is functioning at Kollam Rural situated at DPO Kollam Rural linked with District VHF-L/B
CoB and VHF Communication
        In this District, Computer Back bone (CoB) Networks and VHF Communication are being provided for the reception of Messages pertaining to the Law and order, prevention and detection of crime etc. 
Computer Maintenance Unit (DCMU)
        A separate DCMU team for Kollam City and Kollam Rural are performing for the installation of Computer System, repair, and maintenance of Computers, Printers, and other electronic gadgets at various Police Stations/ Offices .The care and maintenance of iAPS Network, Cyber cell, and the Passport Cell Network of this 2 DPOs and Police Stations were also being carried out by the DCMU.
Radio Workshop
        The Radio Workshop of this Unit conducts the basic repair and maintenance of Wireless Equipment and Accessories. The major level testing, evaluation and programming tasks of W/T Sets and Accessories, which could not be carried out from this end are being carried out at Central Workshop, Telecommunication HQrs.
Other Special Communication Arrangements

•  Providing communication arrangements for the movements and security of VVIPs and VIPs.
• Exclusive communications cover for the Lok Sabha/ Assembly/ Panchayath Elections. W/T Communication has also been provided to the inaccessible Booths in Kollam City and rural Districts .
• As many as 40 Festivals are being organized in this District, and continues to witness heavy rush of Pilgrims/ Devotees every Year. Effective Communication arrangements are being organized for the crowd control as well as Traffic regulations to ensure smooth flow of traffic and pilgrims.
• Kollam Pooram, Karkidavavu Bali at Thirumullavaram, 12 Vilakku Maholsavam and Ochira Kali at Ochira temple,  28 Onam Mahotsavam at Asthamudi, Kallada jalolstavam, Malanada Mahotsavam, Kadakkal Thiruvaathira, Trikkadavoor Temple Mahotsavam, Aanayadi Pooram, Vishu festival at Kulathuppuzha, Meda-Thiruvaathira at Kottarakkara temple, Pathomudaya mahotsavam at Elampalloor temple  are some of the major Festival duties in this District in which Telecommunication Staff and VHF equipments were routinely deployed.
